Also, parents often want further and higher BTW instruction for their students and we are able to offer this. For more information or to schedule this instruction with one of our certified instructors, call 970 925 3760 x 1237.

Colorado DMV Third Party Drive Exams:
Aspen High School offers Colorado DMV third party drive exams. No need to wait for several weeks for your appointment in GS; you can get your drive exam in Aspen. Cost is $40; exams start and finish at the AHS parking lot and take about 30 minutes. Directions:  Heading toward Highlands on Maroon Creek Rd: turn left at Moore Drive, then left at first stop sign into AHS parking lot.  Call 970 925 3760 x 1237 to schedule an appointment.

Other Information:
Any student who desires to get a driver's permit prior to age 15 1/2 must complete a driver's education classroom course prior to getting their permit.

Students can be as young as 14 years 6 months when they begin the 30 hour comprehensive course, but must get their permit within 6 months of course completion.

While we recommend that students take the full 30 hour classroom course at AHS, Colorado law also  enables students to take the classroom portion of driver’s ed over the internet (about which we have no information or recommendations since we only offer on-site classes), but requires that they complete the six hours of driving with a certified driving school such as Aspen High School if they live within 30 miles of that driving school, which most students at AHS do.

Students who are 16 and over do not need to take any courses in order get the permit, but parents might want their child to take the course for other reasons, including insurance discounts and driver improvement.

All students 17 and under must hold their permit for one year before sitting for the drive exam.
